Panda Rescued!

Wolong pandas are safe but in need of food.

More than 60 giant pandas at China's most famous panda park, the Wolong centre, were safe and well following a huge earthquake that struck the area, CCTV reporter said on May 18 2008.

A total of 63 giant pandas at the park did not sustain major injuries following an 8-magnitude quake that hit the southwest province of Sichuan, where the park is located. Right after the earthquake hit Wolong, there were 6 pandas found missing. The Wolong Center staffs searched in the nearby mountains and found 2 after the first round of aftershocks. On May 17, another 2 pandas were found alive and back to the Wolong center. All 4 pandas that are returned suffered minor injuries. As of May 18, 2 pandas are still missing.

The pandas were terrified by the hugged sound and shaking of the ground. Some pandas refused to follow the center staffs' order. Wolong Center staffs are calling for help of bamboos and other panda food.
